Poll: The internet VS The Church of Scientology

Gathering information for a possible full Wikinews poll, I am interested in what the public thinks of the "first great internet war", The Internet VS. The Church of Scientology.

We are wondering who you think will win this war. Will the internet win? What about the "church"....maybe you don't care???

Anyways cast your vote to the right of the blog postings, at the top of the page. From the date of this post, you have a week.

Please feel free to leave comments.

Neither side will win. The CoS has too large an offline presence to be destroyed online, and Anonymous is too dispersed for even the CoS to do more than sue a few users to make examples of them.

But if one side were to win, I fully support Anonymous in this case.

I would advise you to put hings as they should be in the first place,
this is not "the Internet", but a hanfull of interautes who decided to covertly act against a church who is not hiding any of its entities.
understand this post might be removed "misteriously" as it does not forward the "wanted message", but at least it is my opinion and I share it
as to the answer who will win?
to me a war is never won. I doubt seriously "anonymous" will remove any SCN website, not be more than a advertisment for people to go and check the scientology sites to see if they work. doing so defeats therfore any of their actions!

Anonymous are fresh reinforcements for a struggle that has been active since 1995 on the Internet when some ex-scientologists by chance started communicating through the Usenet newsgroup alt.religion.scientology. The Internet has become a disaster for the cult, a medium they cannot control or suppress. They can't 'win'; it remains to be seen whether they can lose. We are as often on the Net in uncharted waters here.

I am not Anonymous, but I do sign for the Alt Religion Scientology Central Committee.

The Scientology side will prevail due to it's constructive purposes and ability to help.

Although Scientology's "opponents" may feel it is neither constructive or helpful, it's also clearly evident that the anti-Scientology side of this exhibits poorer manners, nastier attitudes-- and offers no constructive alternatives to Scientology.

The side with the most anger and antagonism will exhaust and burn itself out. They have neither the attention span or the persistence necessary.

The anti-Scientology crew should unite to develop a more effective means of truly bettering themselves and the rest of mankind. Perhaps then, they can actually compete with Scientology in some important way.

The general public has yet to meet an actual anti-Scientology celebrity spokesperson or activist who shares comparable public recognition with a Cruise, a Travolta, a Will Smith, a Kirstie Alley, etc.

Public recognition counts for something, right? What kind of public relations, public service program strategy does the Dark side have?

Someone has an awful lot of catching up to do, but any positive & constructive help will be appreciated.

To JP:

Scientology can fail one their NEGATIVE actions are spread far and wide across the land.

Their 'help' is lies, they're 'treatments' merely lead to brainwashing.

Anonymous doesn't care about being 'heros' they are Anti-heros if anything, hate them, love them, it matters not, if they're goal is acomplished everyone will know about "Fair Game", Snow White, Lisa McPherson, and that nice little message from them saying Jesus was a pedophile. (Which was just proven to be a true message)

The more I learn about these people the more scared I get about it.

And something must be done about before they hurt more people.

Dear JP:

Scientology has caused more international dissent, ill speculation, general animosity and head-shaking than aid and constructiveness. To most people, "Scientology" is not synonymous with "goodwill".

Scientology's "opponents" do offer a good alternative to Scientology - FreeZone, which is basically Scientology, but without monetary obligations. Our manners are not poor, nor our attitudes "nasty", thank you very much. Sure, some of Anonymous' hangers-on may be immature, but any official releases by us have been clear, to the point, and, while they may not have been excessively polite, they have certainly not been unnecessarily "nasty" to anyone.

If you ask any Anonymous, they'll immediately tell you that their main goal is not to better themselves, or even better mankind in some kind of vigilante hero way. They do it for the lulz, and this time, they're actually helping people on the way, by bringing down an organization whose main goal is taking its worshippers' money. L. Ron Hubbard himself said that he'd "like to start a religion, that's where the money is."

So you say Anonymous needs a celebrity spokesperson to be on par with the Scientologists? I'm sure a few of us could go on Oprah and jump on her couch, if that would make you feel that we are more legitimate.

As for public recognition, Anonymous' war has received press from USA Today, Wired, NBC, The Times, Sky News, various local papers, and even on gossip blogger Perez Hilton's website, which, though hardly an official news source, holds great influence, as more people are likely to read Perez's words than pick up a newspaper.

Catching up? We've caught up. I'm pretty sure there's more people on the Internet than in the Church of Scientology.

We are Anonymous. We are legion. We do not forgive, we do not forget. Good day to you, sir.

And by the way - there's a typo in your first sentence. It ought to be "its", not "it's".

Yes, the Co$. They're destroying themselves, and soon, nobody will join them. If only people like Nancy Cartwright wouldn't give millions of dollars to them... I would totally want to see the Co$ go down, but I don't want to hear those ridiculous Anonymous memes.
