Wikinews: Interview with The Church of Scientology

They’ve got oodles of cash (allegedly), they have lots of celebrity members (definitely), but they don’t have too good a public image - at least not on the Internet.

Who are we talking about? Well, that’d be the Church of Scientology.

Over the past week the Church has ended up back in the spotlight following the posting of a video of Church member Tom Cruise and its subsequent takedown. Dozens of copies have sprung up and “Anonymous” - a rag-tag bunch of computer enthusiasts - have knocked several of the Church’s sites off the net.

The Church hasn’t said much, but we’re trying to do something about that. If you’ve any questions about recent events you’d like to see Wikinews put to the Church, send them in. Email scoop@wikinewsie.org and we’ll see if we can get an answer.

Also feel free to vote in our poll to the right of the blog postings, at the top of the page.

you have just entered the very heart, soul, and life force of the internet. this is a place beyond sanity, wild and untamed. there is nothing new here. "new" content on 4chan is not found; it is created from old material. every interesting, offensive, shocking, or debate inspiring topic you've seen elsewhere has been posted here ad infinitum. we are the reason for "not safe for work". we are the anonymous army. cross us and you will fail. anonymous is everywhere. you depend on us every day. we bag your groceries, we fix your computers. anonymous sees you before you see him. sitting at desks around the world right now is a nameless, faceless, unforgiving mafia composed of the best of the best.

We are 4channers. the people devoid of any type of soul or conscience. products of cynicism and apathy, spreading those very sentiments daily. anonymous is the hardened war veteran of the internet. he does not forgive or forget. we have seen things that defy explanations. heard stories that would make any god-fearing, law abiding citizen empty their stomach where they stand. we have experienced them multiple times and eagerly await their return.

4chan is a place of sheer genius and utter stupidity, and there is often a thin line dividing the two. here you will see a state of mind that exists in most human beings, but is rarely if ever shown. this is a place where taboos do not exist. 4chan cannot simply be regarded as a simple website or imageboard. it is so much more than code. 4chan is alive and constantly changing. this is a subculture, a self-governing sect of the world. rich in history and foundation. to become a 4chan user is to speak a different language. to leave behind any methods of conventional thinking you once knew.

There are things here that you will not understand and things you never will understand. if you cannot accept this then GTFO now. because there is no turning back.

This is 4chan, this is /b/ "

Pretend there is a bar or gauge if you will. The pressure that this measures goes up every time you see scat porn or a snuff film. Every time you are rick rolled or see the internet uncover yet another corporate/government scandal. After you go through another flame war or download another movie. After every won CS game and WC3 tourny. After every photoshopped pic of an elephant ass raping a child whose blood flies through the air to land on an animated gif in just the right way to make you laugh in that way that makes 90% of the god fearing people of this world cringe or scream in disgust. I AM the internet. We are the internet. We are the 10-30 year olds who were raised on this stuff. The bnet kiddies who are growing up to be your best and brightest. We are desensitized. Nothing is sacred. Nothing holds meaning. Chuck Palaniuk never could have guessed what would happen if we didnt break free from corporate America.

Fox news, there is a future scarier than Fight Club. Your country club loving, yacht owning, fag hating patrons just can't imagine what they are facing.... you can't imagine the power we possess. We own the networks. We own the world. We are cruel not because we hate but because we don't care and the power that gives us is infinite....

One thing about the Church of Scientology that its critics don't realise is that it continues to expand no matter what publicity it gets. People hear about it and get interested

The true story of Scientology® is simple, concise and direct. It is quickly told:
http://www.rehabilitatenz.co.nz/pages/true-story-of-scientology.html

1. A philosopher develops a philosophy about life and death.
2. People find it interesting.
3. People find it works.
4. People pass it along to others.
5. It grows.

Poor! He says that scientology expands no matter what we do. Then, how come we get more and more people visiting our critical websites - more than scientology websites in fact, and how come that the cult is so interested that it fears to see its best hardsellers like Cruise exposed in the world of the Web?
You can't have it both ways, scientology!

Anonymous said...

if people want to practice Scientology so be it. But not at the price of their livelihoods or their freedoms. In this age your masters can't sit back and create lies out of whole cloth and sell it to the public. We won't allow it. There is no copyright on salvation.

other religions don't hire private detectives, shamelessly court celebrities, constantly file lawsuits, conduct surveillance and break into the IRS.

Why does scientology do all these things?

why does scientology hook people up to an electronic device and ask them extremely personal questions. Why does it cost so much?

THE CULT OF SCIENTOLOGY DESERVES TO BE HARASSED. THEY HAVE BEEN DEFRAUDING PEOPLE AND RUINING LIVES FOR 50 YEARS.

Anonymous said...

SCIENTOLOGY IS NOT A RELIGION ITS A CULT!

scientology got its legal status as a religion by threating to sue the IRS, how many other religions have done this? come to think of it how many other real religions or so secretive about everything they do? Scientology needs to be open and accountable like a real religion if it wants to be reguarded as such, i think the legal status of scientology as a religion needs to be reviewed and think scientolgy should support any review to show they have nothing to hide.

The Church of scientology should be taken to the international court for its abuses on human rights. Check out this site for details on its human rights abuses, China is nothing compared to them

It is very funny to look at the logic of some of these critics of Scientology: first they start bashing it indiscriminately with their vitriol and lies in an effort to put an end to it, if they only could, then they bleat like small kids when they get an adverse reaction?! This goes for Andrew Morton too.
How does the average man or woman react if somebody starts maligning them in the press or to their friends? Well, the normal reaction of course is to refute the lies and hit back and expose the impostor, before one's reputation and good name is ruined.

Anonymous said...

People who criticize Scientology do so because of facts we have read. We try to engage in a constructive debate with the 'indocterined' Scientologist - to hear some actual logic and engaging conversation from their side - but alas, it is like talking to a brick wall. Entheta = a brainwashing technique to turn off the mind to criticism.

Scientology is a viral infiltration of the collective mind, body, and spirit of humanity. It has taken on a life of its own and seeks nothing but the propegation of itself, leaving empty shells of people in its wake. It has gotten too big for our liking. We are uncomfortabley aware of its existience.

WHAT ARE YOUR CRIMES, SCIENTOLOGY?!? CONFESS YOUR CRIMES!!!

Anonymous said...

What Scientologists consistently fail to grasp is that we are not attacking their beliefs, or their freedom to those beliefs.

We are attacking the nature of the church itself. It is a viral, criminal construct.

Open your eyes - use your mind - follow your heart.

Something is wrong here.

If you believe in the usefulness of Dianetics practice it - tell your friends how great it is - join the collective 'Free Zone' for all we care.

Question why the Church of Scientology and the RTC are opposed to, and persecute 'Free Zone' practitioners.

Questioning - Debate - Constructive Critisism... these are GOOD things. They help us grow and think for ourselves.

Scientology changed my life for the better. Life is much easer, more fun, I see better, fee better, work better, study better, have much more money, more and better friends and am closer to my family.

As for what I think of Scientology critics. I don't think about them much. I am not around any very often and when I am I don't argue with them. What would be the point, what is there to argue about?
I like to study and experience Scientology not argue about it.

I have been studying the new basics package for the last couple months. It is great, there is nothing like it.

If it was what the hackers think it is, the I wouldn't be doing Scientology either.

It isn't what you think it is.

That's why I do it.

There's a lot of good practicl stuff there.

Calling it something like a cult is like saying atomic scientists WORSHIP molecules.

You can't get much more wrong based on skimpy information.

Anonymous said...

There is a lot of good, practical stuff everywhere! One needent subscribe to a militant organization that 'hooks' you on a very flawed 'Oxford Personality Test' or 'American Personality Test', which is designed to make you fail. Scientologists of the world: these tests are widely criticized in the Scientific community as COMPLETELY INVALID.
After completing the test, you are invariably produced with negative results and then presented with your only option to change yourself for the better, or in some cases avoid a horrible fate - Scientology. This is step one of a road that will ruin your life.

Brainwashing is real - there are four documented reports from the late 50s to early 60s of L. Ron Hubbard delving into the topic of brainwashing - he learned many techniques during his time in China and retooled them when he was constructing Scientology. (The irrefutable, factual, 100% valid information available on the life, writings, practices, and quotes of L. Ron Hubbard alone should be essential reading to the Scientologist.)

We know it's a very tough thing to face and that the Scientologist is very sensitive to knowledge or persons presenting knowledge that exposes a conflicting view towards Scientology (there is a reason the Scientologist gets so knotted up and without logic closes his mind to the criticisms); and the docterine and practices of Scientology are heavily designed and constanly retooled to prevent the Scientologist from confronting such a truth - you are being lied to, you are being dissasembled, you are being robbed.

If the ideas of Dianetics and auditing and clearing interest you and work for you, Anonymous would like to encourage you to practice these techniques, and what you have learned for free, outside of the 'machine'. :)

Scientologists of the world: please, for one minute take the time to step back and look at the practices of your church - for your own well being. They are hiding so very much from you.

Anonymous wants the base of the pyramid to be aware of the pyramid itself. We will not be silenced. Truth and knowledge are free for everyone.

I've always noticed that Scientologists get really defensive when reporters or protesters start raising questions about the CoS or citing documented facts that shed a negative light on the Church. It actually seems pretty weird - I mean, they don't ever present a clear argument, nor are they able to refute the evidence. They always seem more concerned with attacking the person (in most instances, rather underhandedly, and nastily), and changing the subjcet rather than facing it.

That really seems to be indicative that the critic may be on to something and the church has something to hide. In fact, the whole effort of the church to silence and surpress ANY information about itself seems like they have a lot to hide. It is really creepy.

Can any Scientologists out there help us explain what's really going on?

I had heard about the Scientology web content filters, but hadn't found the Wikipedia page on them. Very interesting.

That is so typical of Scientology, though - underhandedly deceiving their own followers by getting them to load it on their computers under false pretenses.

They have all their bases covered and guarded with immense effort, funding, and ingenuity.

Sure the article goes on to refer to the cross-section of Scientologists who knowingly wanted the software, but that is just the result of being indoctrinated with brainwashing concepts like 'entheta'.

Who would want their thetan enturbulated? That is potentially pysically harmful, you know?

For example, if we were to disclose OT3, "Wall of Fire", docterine on a practicing preclear, I'm pretty sure they'd get pnemonia. Yes, pnemonia.

C'mon people, it's pseudoscientific fact.

I know Scientologists may find my sarcasm enturbulating, for which I appologize. In this deathly serious matter of global proportions, however, it is good to maintain a level of SOH (sense of humor).

We need to help inform the masses of this terrible, psychotic, and paranoid organization that is growing far too fast and is abusing and has possibly infultrated the US legal system.

Why fight the Church of Scientology?

Here's why:

* Scientology's harassment and litigious policies against its critics and against free speech.

* Scientology’s attempts to force search engines to omit any websites critical of them.

* Scientology's belief that they are the only ones that can help the world ( make the world “clear” ), thus being intolerant of other religions – something they fight for when it’s their religion being attacked.

* Scientology's disconnection policy, which requires members to cut all ties to friends and family considered "antagonistic" towards the religion ( a basic practice of all cults ).

* Scientology's affirmation that anything written by L Ron Hubbard is the true and definitive word. It can not be altered or disputed (a single messianic figure, another basic practice of all cults).

* Scientology's attack on psychiatry solely because psychiatry attacked L Ron Hubbard for practicing medicine without a license and having no scientific proof that his form of psychotherapy worked. (once, after stating that Dianetics improved one’s memory, a person declared as “clear” couldn’t even remember the color of Hubbard’s tie). L Ron Hubbard turned Dianetics into Scientology in order to continue to make money and avoid criminal charges.

* Scientology's contribution scheme requires you to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to reach the highest level of their “Bridge to Total Freedom”. Making money is one of the sole functions of each “org” – organization - aka “mission” ( KSW – Keep Scientology Working is their motto).

* Scientology's misleading images of using the cross ( a symbol of Christianity ), the words “Mission” and “Minister” to promote their psychotherapy as a religion ( Scientologists do not believe in Christ. L Ron Hubbard once said “there was no Christ”. He said that religion was created in 600 BC by people “using a piece of R6” implant. L Ron Hubbard also implied that Christ was a pedophile). Scientology is not tolerant of any other religion. It can’t be because it goes against everything L Ron Hubbard teaches.

* Scientology’s deceptive marketing strategies used to lure you into purchasing courses intended to help you achieve your “full potential”. These include the “Free Personality Test”, that always points out problems they can help you with if you paid them, and through frontline organizations such as ABLE, The Way to Happiness and Applied Scholastics which introduce potential members (including school age children ) to the teachings of L Ron Hubbard and his made up terminology ( which requires a Scientology dictionary to understand ).

* The death of a Scientologist Lisa McPherson while in the care of the Church. The Church settled this case out of court.

* The suicide of Noah Lottick who jumped from the roof of a building because he had no more money to give the Church.

* Criminal activities committed on behalf of the Church and directed by Church officials such as Operation Freakout and Operation Snow White in which L Ron Hubbard’s wife was sent to prison.

* Conflicting statements about L. Ron Hubbard's life, in particular false accounts of Hubbard’s education (he flunked out of George Washington University), credentials (was never a Civil Engineer nor a Nuclear Scientist), military career ( he was never a WWII Hero. In fact, he was decommissioned twice, once for accidentally ordering his ship to fire upon Mexico – It wasn’t until he created Scientology that he gave himself the title of “Commodore” and made everyone wear naval uniforms that he finally achieved his dream of being a great naval officer) and lastly his great expeditions ( 2 failed attempts one trying to make a movie and the other searching buried gold ). He also abandoned his first wife and children while he went on these “adventures”, cheated on his wife, committed bigamy, tried to kidnap his daughter from his second wife and was himself on medication at the time of his death. None of these facts are ever mentioned in any Scientology bio’s of the man.

* All-in-all, Scientology is based on lies and the ego of one man. It is a scam in global proportions.
